  46. STF PowerFax™ PE Description

  48. STF PowerFax™ Personal Edition provides a personal fax gateway for the Apple PowerTalk environment.  The PowerFax software allows sending, receiving and viewing of fax documents.

  50. After you install PowerFax, received faxes will be put into your PowerTalk Mailbox In Tray along with other types of mail.  Faxes can be viewed by double-clicking them.

  52. Mail can be sent to fax addresses directly from any application that supports the standard PowerTalk™ mailer.

  55. Installation

  57. If you have installed a pre-release version of PowerFax, you must throw away the PowerTalk Setup Preferences, PowerTalk Startup Preferences and all fax addresses before installing this version.

  59. If you own FaxSTF™ 2.x but wish to use PowerFax™, you must remove FaxSTF™ 2.x components before installing PowerFax™.  FaxSTF™ 2.x and PowerFax™ will not work correctly when installed together on the same computer.

  61. If you own FaxSTF™ 3.x, proceed with installation.  FaxSTF 3.0 is fully compatible with PowerFax.

  63. 1.  Double-click the Installer icon.

  65. 2.  Click Continue in the PowerFax splash screen.

  67. 3.  Click the Install button to install STF PowerFax™.

  69. 4.  Select your modem model from the Modem Selection panel and click the Select button.

  72.           If your modem model does not appear in the list of modem models, use the Driver Type option.  Instead of selecting a modem by name, click the Driver Type radio button and select the correct driver for your modem chip set.  Consult the documentation for your modem or contact the manufacturer if the chip set is unknown.

  75. 5.  Click the “Restart” button when you are prompted to restart the Macintosh after installation is finished.

  78. Configuration

  80. Before you can send and receive faxes with STF PowerFax™ you must do some minimal configuration.

  82. You should label your PowerTalk Mailbox In Tray with your own name.  The Mailbox name is put on the cover page of outgoing faxes as the sender's name.

  84. 1.  Add STF PowerFax service to your PowerTalk Key Chain by opening the Key Chain, clicking the Add button, and selecting STF PowerFax.

  86. 2.  Configure PowerFax™ settings by double-clicking STF PowerFax, and making sure all PowerFax settings are correct.  Please see the PowerFax documentation for help configuring settings.

  88. 3.  Restart your computer.

  90. 4.  When reinstalling PowerFax, please reconfigure PowerFax to make sure all settings are correct and then restart.

  95. The STF PowerFax™ registration is an AppleMail letter which will open automatically the first time your Macintosh is restarted after adding and configuring PowerFax™ service.  The letter is pre-addressed with an 800 number (for registration only).

If you are at a location that does not allow use of U.S. 800 numbers you will need to change the number in the STF Electronic Address information card (located in the PowerFax™ folder on your hard drive) to 816-463-7958.  Or you may use Type-In addressing in the mailer to change the address for the Registration letter.

  99. Fill in all information fields in the Registration letter, then select Send from the Mail menu.  When the Send dialog appears, click OK to send the Registration letter.

  101. Registration of STF PowerFax™ is important because only registered PowerFax™ users will be notified and be eligible for special discounts on the full-featured commercial version of STF PowerFax™ when it becomes available.
